LANTIRN 40K TRAINER

Originally designed for air-to-air combat only, the F-14 Tomcat has been upgraded with the LANTIRN system to enable it to detect and track targets and deliver precision munitions.

The LANTIRN system is operated from the back-seat by the Radar Intercept Officer using a custom hand control unit.

eV Interactive, acting as a subcontractor to Orion Networking Inc., is the primary software developer for the LANTIRN Desk Top Trainer (LDTT). The LDTT runs on a standard PC and simulates the majority of the actual LANTIRN functions while also providing a basic flight simulator for the F-14 Tomcat.

FEATURES

  • Requires a modest PC (500Mhz or better) with an NVidia GeForce-based 3D graphics card.
  • Two systems can be networked together for Pilot / RIO coordination.
  • 120 mile nominal visibility.
  • Currently uses terrain textures at 13 meter nominal resolution, but can theoretically support 8x that resolution given adequate storage.
  • Supports contiguous flight with automatic "paging" of scenery. Given enough storage, seamless flights of thousands of miles are possible.
  • Fog, clouds, sunglare, and lensflare effects.
  • Imports standard databases including CIB, DOQ, DTED and CADRG.
  • Interfaces to custom Lockheed Martin LANTIRN Hand Control Unit.

The actual LANTIRN system is developed by Lockheed corporation.
